When a new year begins, it provides a great opportunity for new design trends to be unveiled—and there’s no better place to get an overview than at the World Market Center & KBIS show in Las Vegas. After four exhausting days, I returned home full of inspiration and primed to share what I learned rather than embracing the catchphrase “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

Here are five trends that I found especially cool:

1. Metal accessories, tiles and finishes in bath/kitchen fixtures. If you’re a fan of shine, you’ll love this trend. You can go bold with “space age” wall art that has a gold metallic sheen, silvery metal tiles featuring intricate and interesting patterns, and bath/kitchen fixtures finished in copper.
2. Colors in appliances, cabinets and quartz countertops. Don’t fret; harvest gold and avocado green aren’t back in vogue—but color is. Leading the way is Marsala, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015, a naturally robust and earthy wine red that’s a striking choice for a stove. Blue is also a popular option, as reflected in eye-catching cobalt blue cabinetry and quartz countertops featuring hues of midnight and sky blue.
3. Automated toilets, faucets and shower controls. Yes, technology has made it into the bathroom in a big way. Set the water temperature and length of your shower, close your toilet lid to flush, and wave your hands under your faucet to start the water flow. Your bathroom may become your favorite room!
4. Colorful pouffes (footrests), rugs and pillows. Timid about adding color to your home? This trend is for you, as it focuses on using accent pieces to bring color to an otherwise neutral space. Choose a pouffe featuring several colors, colorful pillows to amp up an earth-tone couch, and a bright rug—maybe red or blue—to add eye appeal.
5. Roller shades with geometric patterns. Window treatments have gone a bit psychedelic, using interesting designs rather than color to make statements that manage to be both bold and subtle at the same time. When you opt for geometrically patterned roller shades for your windows, you’re right on trend.
