Chunky Is In
For most people, especially women, "chunky" isn’t a word they want associated with them...at least when it comes to physique. In the design world, however, chunky has a much different connotation, and for fall, chunky design is definitely all the rage.
What does that mean? Think textures, like shag rugs and knit pillows, and rustic pieces, like wood tables, rope wing chairs and woven rattan baskets. The idea is to add layers of texture to a room, resulting in a warm, inviting space. Exaggeration is OK, and actually preferred.
As for your "palette," the chunky look works best with natural colors—shades of white, gray and brown—but pops of color add a refreshing element.
Diane’s Take: This is my kind of design...clean and simple, just the way I like it. I love the textures, natural colors and rustic look of the furniture. It results in a very welcoming and comfortable environment. I can speak to that firsthand, as this is the style I used to design my Scottsdale home some months ago, ahead of the trend!
